God`s Power

The story is told of an exasperated president Lincoln who interjected the following story in the middle of a squabbling cabinet discussion: “How many legs does a sheep have if you call a tail a leg? Someone in the Cabinet said, “Well, five, of course,” “Wrong!” Lin-coln said. “It still has only four. Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it one!” Just because someone calls something truthful like certain lifestyles, doesn’t make it truthful. In other words, people suppress the truth just as they were doing in the first century. The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God`s in-visible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being under-stood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Romans 1:18-20

The design we see in nature means there has to be a designer. We see God’s power in the creation of the human body. Huxley, an atheist wrote this: `We are as much a prod-uct of blind forces as is the falling of a stone to earth or the ebb and flow of the tides. We have just happened, and man was made flesh by a long series of singularly beneficial acci-dents.` In other words, our bodies are just an accident. Of course, another view is that our bodies are the result of design and planning. And if there is planning and design there has to be a designer. This truth is what people in the first century were trying to suppress, just as they are doing today. The following is a list of facts about the complexity and size of the human body. Think of this - are they a result of planning and design (that is God’s power) or accident?

You possess 3,000,000,000,000 nerve cells all coordinated by the brain. You have 30,000,000,000 working sections to the brain. You have 131,000,000 photoreceptors in your eyes. You have 24,000 hair cells in your ears that react to sound and convert it to nerve impulses. Your small intestine has a surface area of 970,000 square feet. Your heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood every day beating 100,000 times a day. Your liver manufactures more than 1,000 different enzymes, each controlling a different chemical reaction. You have 60,000 miles of blood vessels in your body. You breathe 438 cubic feet of air a day. There are 35,000,000 gland cells in your stomach to break down food yet not digest itself Your kidneys have 40 miles of tubing and clean 500 gallons of your blood every day. Every cell has 1,000,000,000,000 bits of data in it (the same amount of information as 10,000 en-cyclopedia- sized books. There are 639 muscles that must work together. Joints must move 25,000,000 times in our lifetimes without wearing out. There are 30,000,000,000,000 cells in our body with 10,000 functions. http://www.dandydesigns.org/id57.html

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him.” Romans 1:21 Let’s glorify and give thanks to God because we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14
